Choosing the right hotel is key to any trip with dogs. If you’re traveling with your dog for the first time, check out this blog post where I explain how to choose a pet-friendly hotel.
We traveled with my parents and their big dog Lupo, a 10-year-old Coton de Tullier. It is important to choose a hotel that suits all of us and our dogs.
Québec City Vacation Packages
We stayed at the Hotel Port-Royal next to the Port of Quebec and in Old Quebec. We didn’t use the car during our 5 day stay which was very convenient.
Daily service $25/day pet fee (which is a bit unusual as our room was not cleaned during our stay due to covid). However, there are pet fees to consider when traveling, so plan ahead.
I like that the room has a small kitchen with a coffee maker, stove and toaster. Very convenient because we brought breakfast and snacks, but mostly because we were able to store Henry’s food in the fridge and freezer.
Since we are on the first floor, we have our own patio where we can sit outside with our dogs without disturbing anyone. It’s a great place to have breakfast and relax together.

The restaurant next door, Louis Tavern & Bar à Vin, is fantastic and dog-friendly on its terrace (as long as they don’t bark).
In fact, many restaurants are dog-friendly. By law, dogs are not allowed in the restaurants, but the terraces are mostly dog-friendly, but you always have to ask, because we were turned away at one place.
Since we were traveling with Lupo, our 10-year-old Coton de Tullier, we planned our days around the safety of walking him. Not to mention super hot all week!
Our days were spent exploring new streets and places, and at dinner our dogs stayed for a few hours with Linda, a lovely pet we met at Rover, who took great care of our pups. This is a big help for us as we cannot leave the dogs alone in the hotel room.
Dog Friendly Quebec City: Our Dog’s First Road Trip
Advance planning is key. We booked all dinner reservations before we left, so we knew what time we could give the zookeeper. It also saved waiting time at restaurants and we didn’t have to struggle to find it
I recommend planning ahead if you are traveling with your dog. Keeping your dog with you is an added responsibility and you need to make sure you are a well-mannered owner.
& La Buche, an elevated version of Quebec favorites. We sit on the patio and maybe bring the kids. But I recommend asking before you go!
For dessert or a snack, check out the Roquette Casse-Crot! There were many dogs in the yard when we left.
Dog Friendly Getaways In Bc
If you’re looking for a great dog-friendly adventure while in Quebec, check out Parc de la Chute Montmorency. This historic 83 meter high waterfall has become one of the most popular tourist spots in the region.
Now, cross the suspension bridge. Now I have a phobia of bridge and especially with Henry (he’s brave) but my parents said he was great!
Where I like to walk To get there, the cable car offers a panoramic view of not only the falls, but the St. Lawrence River, Île d’Orléans, and Quebec City.
Parc de la Chute Montmorency is a great place to walk, explore, and take photos with your dog, but if you’re visiting in the summer, pack plenty of water for the kids. We brought our own portable water bottles. I loved that mine fit easily in my belt pouch! (I’ll link a couple at the end of the post!)
Saint Sauveur Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals
Chute Montmorency is about a 20 minute drive from our hotel. After seeing the falls, we headed to Île d’Orléans, a foodie’s dream. It is a 15-minute drive from Chute Montmorency.
We drove and kept the puppies cool in the car. We stopped in Tigidou to buy jam, ice cream and chocolate at Chocolaterie de l’Île d’Orléans.
Among other things, vineyards, own strawberry fields and lavender fields. Ile D’Orléans is a foodie’s dream and we definitely have to go back to sample some of the local delicacies!
This was our first trip with Henry so we did too much. Quebec City is a 3 hour drive and Henry loves to drive so we didn’t have to worry. If your dog is not used to driving, you may want to consider some training before you go.

When packing, a good place to start is to think about the things you use every day.
You should also measure out the appropriate amount of food for the length of your trip. We specifically considered freezing food (Henry was fed raw).
