However, in order to stay in the sun or on many of the ice roads, you need to book six months to a year in advance.

Most visitors to Glacier National Park choose to stay outside the park in hotels, cabins or rentals. Once outside the park, there are two main routes:

Many visitors choose to stay in the greater West Glacier area because of the many places to stay outside the park in cities like Columbia Falls, and Kalispell.

However, I highly recommend booking accommodation on the east side of the park in St. Mary or Babb.

Living near St. Mary or Babb provides access to several Walk-to-the-Sun trails and several glacier trails. You’ll save hours of driving each day by staying here instead of on the west side of the park.

Book your accommodation now if you want to stay in the East! There aren’t many accommodation options here, and they tend to book up quickly.

Glacier National Park has nine lodges in the park, from rustic cabins to historic Swiss lodges.

Where To Stay In Glacier National Park

These are the nine lodges at Glacier, suitable for a variety of walks and interests.

Glacier National Park also offers many reserved and first-come, first-served areas within the park. You can read more about camping in Glacier National Park here.

Five of the nine are managed by Glacier National Park Lodges. These include the Many Glacier Hotel, Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, Rising Sun Motor Inn, Lake McDonald Lodge and the Village Inn at Apgar.

You can book this place up to 13 months in advance (which I recommend doing!). On the first day of each month at midnight mountain time, online reservations are opened for the entire month of the following year.

Four Days In West Glacier, Mt–big Trip #3

Lake McDonald Lodge and many Glacier Hotels often sell out quickly. If you want to stay in this accommodation, I recommend booking 13 months in advance.

Glacier Park Collection manages the Lake McDonald Motel and Apgar Village Lodge. Hotels are also available to book up to a year in advance.

Sperry Chalet and Granite Park Chalet release summer reservations in January. For example, a 2024 booking will be available in January 2024.

Glacier Park Lodging Facilities

St. Mary is a small town located just minutes outside the east entrance of Glacier National Park. In my opinion, this is the best place to stay near Glacier, because of its location.

From here you are just a few minutes from St. Mary, 30 minutes to Logan Pass, 30 minutes to Most Glacier and 1 hour to Two Medicines. However, the choice is very limited in St. Mary, because of her greatness.

Located southeast of Glacier National Park at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 89, East Glacier Park Village is a small community along a historic railroad.

Although a short distance from the park’s attractions, staying at East Glacier Park Village is one of the most popular options in St. Louis. Mary is sold.

West Glacier is a small town located just minutes outside the west entrance of Glacier National Park. You’ll find many accommodations that give you access to places like Apgar Village and Lake McDonald, just a short drive away.

Columbia Falls is about 25 minutes from the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Being a big city, you will find many places to stay, including some budget options.

Whitefish is a popular, high mountain town reminiscent of Jackson Hole. In the summer, it is a popular spot for fly fishing and hiking in Glacier National Park. In the winter, it’s a ski town.

There’s only one way to visit Glacier National Park with dogs, and only when it’s not covered in snow. The McDonald Creek Bike Path is a constructed path that runs 2.5 miles between West Glacier and Apgar Village.
