However, some people may have negative feelings about vaccination if their pet develops a sterile abscess – a lump – at the injection site after a previous vaccination.
Dr Chua, of The Housecall Vet SG, said the latest government advice would help explain the importance of vaccinations, especially to those who are wary of vaccinations or believe vets are being encouraged to get annual vaccinations to make money.
Pet owners who have misconceptions can refer to the guidelines and ask their veterinarians for more information, she said.
“At least there is relevant official information,” he said. “I don’t like that they go on the Internet and Google all these diseases (and prevention methods). We really don’t know where they end up getting the information they need.
