Focus on California and Oregon, two states where you can easily travel with pets (I know because I travel here all the time)! In these states, I wanted to find the best dog-friendly places: inexpensive, spacious dog parks or dog-friendly beaches, pet-friendly hotels, and relaxed downtown atmospheres where it’s easy to bring your own. While my only dog-friendly spot in Oregon is Cannon Beach, remember, almost all Oregon beaches are dog-friendly, with far fewer rules and restrictions than California beaches! Translation: The Oregon Coast is perfect for traveling with dogs. Photo of Gold Coast, Oregon.
I love Cannon Beach for so many reasons: the charming downtown, the dozens of great restaurants, the coffee (Sleep Monk!!), the tons of top-notch pet-friendly hotels, and of course, the 100% kid-friendly beach. pets friendly Friendly No need to hide here!! Oregon is more relaxed than California in this regard. And the views of Haystack Rock will amaze you, especially at sunset. Stroll your dog along Ocean Avenue, enjoy a bowl of chowder on one of the outdoor patios, and be sure to stop by the adorable pet store around the corner: Dogs Love the Ocean.
Dog Friendly Cottages On The West Coast Of Scotland
*** My picks for the best pet friendly hotels in Cannon Beach are a combination of Ocean Lodge and Surfsand Resort. Both are beachfront, upscale hotels, and pet-friendly. The Ocean Lodge rooms are large and have a view ~ but Surfsand is close to downtown and Haystack Rock, the rooms are very comfortable, and their Wayfarer restaurant is my favorite place in town (and offers room service).
Bend is my current residence in the States, and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever lived in a friendlier place. Bend’s staggering number of dog parks puts California’s dog parks to shame, and nearly every restaurant in town with a patio is dog-friendly, including McMenamin St. Francis School (it’s a pub, brewery, movie theater, concert hall, cigar bar, and hotel turned former Catholic school), Berry Winery, Avid Cider, Crux Brewing, 10 Barrels…and the list goes on.
Bend has more parks, hotels, and restaurants per capita than any other city on this list! Dylan is pictured on the famous Deschutes River Trail in downtown Bend.
*** My pick for the best pet friendly hotels in Bend: Teatro Golf Resort. At Tetrio, you’ll experience luxury golf resort living with spectacular mountain views ~ and only 5 minutes from downtown Bend and the famous Old Mill District. This is the best place for pets in the city. Otherwise, head to Sunriver Resort, about 20 minutes south of Bend: one of the best family resorts in the United States.

Carmel’s main beach is my favorite dog friendly beach in the world: the legendary Pebble Beach is on the right and if you follow the crescent shaped beach on the left you will see cypress trees lining your view Multi million dollar homes of all types… from elegant cottage to modern. There’s a reason Clint Eastwood lives here: there’s something special about Carmel.
And this city loves dogs: they are welcome almost everywhere ~ but I especially love the cozy outdoor patio of Forge in the Forest, which has a menu specifically for dogs…
