I will never forget my first single mother holiday with my son, who was only two years old at the time. Apart from getting to and from our place, all I could think about was being happy and productive.

To my surprise, there are many places that are family friendly, even for single parents. As the travel industry sees the rise of solo travel and single parents, travel is becoming easier and more affordable. Here we share a few different ways to have a vacation for one mom that everyone will enjoy.

If you’re going to be a single parent for the first time, it’s easier to start small and stick to the states. Here are some great vacation spots for single parent families that don’t require a visa:

There are many all-inclusive resorts in Arizona that offer so much that you won’t want to leave the area. Between the large water parks, attractions, children’s programs and children’s clubs, you can sit back and vacation in style. Outside of the lodges, there are many things to do with kids, including exploring museums, hiking the Grand Canyon, or visiting Bearizona Wildlife Park.

Florida is a popular destination for single parents with lots of fun activities for parents and kids to do together. There you will find popular theme parks for children such as Legoland, Seaworld and Disney World. In addition, there are some family-friendly beaches and plenty of outdoor activities. Many resorts in Florida offer kids’ clubs and daily activities to keep the little ones occupied while you enjoy some time to bathe or enjoy a child-free meal.

Puerto Rico is a great option for a tropical Caribbean vacation that doesn’t require a visa. San Juan, Puerto Rico was the first place I traveled as a single mom when my son was two. If there’s one thing I wish I’d done differently, it would have taken longer!

Puerto Rico has many family friendly beaches that are safe for children and less crowded as a single parent. There are many other places to explore with children, including the El Yunque National Rainforest, two castles: Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo de San Cristobal, a biological bay, and the Rio Camuy Cave Park.

While Puerto Rico isn’t exactly all-inclusive, there are some family-friendly hotels that offer all-inclusive packages that combine your stay with other amazing benefits.

Traveling the world as a single mom can seem like a big, scary step. But luckily, there are many places in the world that are ideal for single parents. Here are some of my favorite places to go for a single mom vacation:

Go Ahead, Single Moms, And Take A Vacation Without Your Kids

Because of Mexico’s family style, it’s a great place to travel and meet other single-parent families. Photo: Kimberly Miles

When my son was three, Mexico was the first country in the world I traveled to as a single mother. In fact, Mexico’s family-friendly environment helped me decide to make Mexico my home!

One of the advantages of Mexico with children is that many local restaurants have free children’s clubs. This makes for a great dining experience for the whole family. As a single mom, having this option when my son and I go out to eat together is a win-win. He plays and meets other local and traveling children, giving me a chance to enjoy my meals and rest.

Mexico has many family resorts with luxury kids clubs and plenty of activities, making it a popular destination for family vacations. Some of these places allow children to stay and play for free (like the Palace Resorts), and some have promotions that sometimes waive the extra charge for single parents.

Costa Rica is another great idea for a single mom vacation, especially if your child loves nature and outdoor activities. My son and I first went to Costa Rica when he was three and he begged to come back.

Since Costa Rica has a large immigrant community, it is not difficult to find other English-speaking families. We met other single moms traveling with small children at the airport. I was also surprised that there is a special line for families with children in strollers. As a single mom traveling with a rambunctious three-year-old, this was a lifesaver for us to get out of the airport quickly.

When it comes to activities, Costa Rica has plenty of beaches and nature to enjoy without spending a fortune. From our Airbnb, we see monkeys, sloths and other animals sitting on our balcony or swimming in the pool. However, there are also many tours and activities that you can book for children of all ages and meet other families. Booking a private tour to Manuel Antonio National Park is very affordable (and highly recommended for a fun experience).

The Single Most Embarrassing Thing I Did After My Divorce

Since becoming a single mom, Aruba has been on my list of places to go with my son because of the many family-friendly activities. Aruba is a small island and it is not difficult to get around on your own. In fact, many other single parents I know have said that Aruba was one of the best vacations they ever had as a single parent.

Aruba has a “One Happy Family” program that offers discounts and discounts for children 12 and under at select hotels and resorts. These special offers include free accommodation when sharing a room with adults, free daily coffee, a family gift, a children’s drink at check-in and a VIK ticket (Great Child). Most of these hotels are located on quiet, swimming beaches, where you can relax in the sun with your children.

There are also plenty of family outings for all ages. I will never forget the ATV tour where the tour guides were very helpful to a family traveling with their 5 and 8 year old children. Kids and parents are having the time of their lives!

Tip: Make sure your documents are in order before you leave the country as a single parent. If you have joint custody or another parent is listed on the child’s birth certificate, bring a signed and signed document from the other parent authorizing you to accompany them to that place. If you are a sole guardian, bring a copy of your guardianship papers.

The accommodations are affordable for a single mom vacation and are perfect for a short weekend getaway. You may not have to worry about parking as you will be driving your own vehicle. I’ve found some gems in my yard that are fun to explore with my son and less than 30 minutes away.

My son and I are no strangers to living. In fact, we try to collect a moment from time to time for a change of scenery and a fun way to work as a tourist in our own city. Sometimes we spend a lot of time in expensive hotels and motels, but most of the time we decide to stay in family-friendly hotel chains like Holiday Inn or Choice Hotels, where the kids stay. and free food. So that’s extra money to spend on room service or save for a bigger trip!

Cruises take the stress out of planning. Everything you need is in one place: accommodation, food and fun activities and tours. There are plenty of opportunities for single parents to have some “me time” on board thanks to the kids clubs. Plus, there are other families traveling and it’s easy to make friends. This is the best way to see the different parts if you ask me
