Best Dog Friendly Walks Sydney – The heart of Sydney’s CBD offers endless walking trails, hidden cafes and dog parks, with world-class views. We asked Alma @alma_the_lappie and her dog to share her daily walks and adventures, her favorite places to visit, the best dog friendly cafes and other things she likes to see on the road .
This is a great city walk and one of our favorite walks with so much to see! The total distance is 10 kilometers from Federation Park and ends at the Sydney Opera House. It can be divided into three separate walks, as described below, or if you prefer, you can complete the entire route, which crosses the Harbor Bridge and ends at the beautiful Kiribili.

This is our usual walk as it is a total of 6km. We set off from the Anzac Bridge walk/bike access on Saunders Road in Pyrmont.

Tip: If you have a sensitive dog, remember that the traffic on the bridge is often very busy and loud.
Take the first exit from the bridge (if you go past the big building on the right, you’ve gone too far!) Follow the stairs and go left instead of going under the bridge. This part of the walk is not pretty, passing through the dock area with many trucks, but the rest is worth it.
Head to The Crescent along James Craig Road and enter Federal Park, which has plenty of off-leash areas, including one for dogs to play and explore a great beach. Tip: Check the tide times and if the tide is out there are small beaches around the shore for your dog to play.
If you’re hungry, there’s plenty to eat at the Tramshed, including outdoor seating at the butcher’s and farm stand, dog friendly, or you can take away, lots to choose from and perfect for travel. A water park.
Uncover The Best Dog Friendly Walks On The Mornington Peninsula
Follow the water back to Pyrmont, taking in the many coves and beaches along the way, most of which are off-leash and dog-friendly! There is a large off-leash walking area, please check the signs as you walk. We love it because it is fun to train Alma to avoid other dogs. Keep left when you reach the end of the road on Bridge Road, which will take you back to Pyrmont. Visit the fish market, which has delicious food and outdoor seating for the dogs, or take a stroll along Pyrmont’s High Street. The Gallon is our favorite dog-friendly spot with a cute hidden patio and great food and wine, and The End Hotel is a great bar with a dog-friendly patio.
Start at Pyrmont Fish Market and follow Anzac Bridge to Bank Street and then Pyrmont Beach. The coast is a road, but there are smaller parks to explore. Find Giba Park just off the steps of Pirrama Park, walk across the beautiful bridge and enjoy the view of the off-leash dog park!
Tip: There is no gate, but the street is quiet and the view of the port and the city is nice day or night.
Walk along the water around Pirrama Park, exploring hidden marinas and cafes along the way, until you reach Darling Harbour. Darling Harbor has a few cool water features to explore with your dog, as well as great bars and restaurants. We found some dog friendly places with outdoor seating if you ask the bar staff first, but our favorite bar was the Beer Deluxe which had a great selection of beers and great bar food. Tour Darling Harbor to Barangaroo Reserve and enjoy the harbor views.
Top Dog Friendly Walks In The Blue Mountains
Barangaroo Reserve The link road from Darling Harbor to Barangaroo Reserve which is an extension of the city has been opened. Walk along the beach past the new Crown Casino and follow the sandstone footprint around the reserve to the water’s edge. We love these sand steps and completely ignored the main road to see them. If the water recedes, you can also find a small beach where your dog can paddle and Alma will spend hours on the road catching the exciting scents left by the water. If you enter the long stairs, you will find a perfect park with an amazing view of the harbor and a hidden path to the hills surrounding the reserve.
After leaving the Barangaroo Reserve you can stroll along the marina and find cafes and restaurants, but if you want a better view, head to Squires Landing for a drink. Make sure you take the last path to the left after the last pier and look for the small stairs at the end that lead to a quieter area with a view of the Harbor Bridge.
From here you can walk along the beach to Squires Landing via Hickson Road Reserve. Seats on the left side of Squire’s Landing give you a front row seat and an unobstructed view of the Sydney Opera House. From here you can see the way to the Opera House.
If you are walking to Kirribilli, Squire’s Landing is close to the Sydney Harbor Bridge and you can catch a ferry to Circular Quay near the Opera House.
