Rocky Mountain National Park Pet Friendly Lodging

Rocky Mountain National Park Pet Friendly Lodging – Dogs are not allowed to walk with you on the trails in the National Park (they are leased, they are allowed on paved footpaths). But Rocky isn’t the only place to ride here. Dogs are allowed on the trails in the National Forest and in the Estes Park Trails system in and around the city.

Hermit Park is our main dog walking location. Keep your dog in the yard if your dog finds a postman or more realistically: find someone who doesn’t want to be the best around dogs or wildlife.

Take your dog outside at the Estes Valley Dog Park, located off Highway 36 on Community Drive. There is plenty of room for your dog to play with other dogs, try the obstacle course and swim in the lake. And watch out for all the little dogs! They have opened up a section of the dog park just for puppies under 30 pounds so they can play comfortably away from the larger breeds. This has to be one of the best dog parks in the country.

Wildlife is abundant in the Rockies, so it is highly recommended and advisable for residents around the year to keep your dog on a leash while you are outside of your unit. Part of what makes visiting Estes Park fun is seeing the wildlife roaming around town. Keep an eye out for birds, deer, moose and other wildlife. Estes Park is their home and we ask that you respect the natural environment and ensure the safety of your dog by not allowing your pet to roam free at any time. Please be a responsible pet owner and clean up after your dog.

Rocky Mountain National Park allows dogs in the park. However, pets are not allowed to accompany you on hiking trails or in the backcountry. This means that dogs are only allowed in the vehicular area and are under six feet long and cannot be left unattended while you are in the park. Keep this in mind when planning your trip. During the winter months, some roads are closed to traffic but allow you to walk your dog. This can be a fun way to see the park with your dog. During the spring, summer, and autumn, this road is heavily traveled, and it is not recommended that you bring your pet into the National Park if you intend to ride outside of your vehicle.
