We went to Davis first, hoping to see Turner Falls. After paying the entrance fee, we were very disappointed (dirty, too many adults, parking, etc.), turned right and went back to our room.

State Parks That Allow Pets

So here we are to have some more fun in the Chickasaw National Forest with my dog…and we were pleasantly surprised. First, make sure you rent a comfortable room (we found a dog-friendly room on Airbnb in Sulphur). After checking into your room, head to Bromide Road for a good look. Then cool off by the Travertine River and end the night with a day trip to Lake Arbuckles.

The Wichita Mountains are home to unique rock hikes, bison crossings, prairie dogs, and beautiful beach towns. Just 1.5 hours from Oklahoma City, this is the perfect weekend getaway for lovers! Start your weekend trip with a hike to The Narrows. This is a 2.7 hike with great views. At the entrance of the canyon there is a large rock that can be difficult for dogs. We returned early.

After your first hike, you can explore 18 more trails, eat by the lake, explore the prairie dog town and look for cute animals including bison and elk! After your day of sightseeing, head to the health club for a meal at the Riverfront Cafe and a stroll through this beautiful town. End the night with a sunrise flight to Mount Scott.

While we couldn’t find a dog-friendly place in Medicine Park, there were plenty of affordable options in nearby Lawton!

Dallas may not be the most dog-friendly place, but there are quite a few places to explore!

Start your weekend in Dallas with a visit to Klyde Warren Park. Here you can borrow board games, people watch and eat from the many food trucks around. After lunch, go hiking the Katy Trail (stop at the Katy Trail Icehouse for a delicious margarita).

On your next day in Dallas, check out one of Let’s Roams’ hunting tours. Since you only have one day in the city, I recommend the Deep Ellum Mural Hunt! After your run, you can check out Cedar Ridge State Park or Rockledge Park for a hike!

If you’re looking for honky Texas vibes, Fort Worth is the place for you! Spend the first day walking the streets of the Fort Worth Stockyards, window shopping, and checking out the daily livestock drives (which run daily at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.). You can also get delicious ice cream at the dog-friendly Riscky’s Barbeque…you won’t be disappointed.

After your day at the Stockyards, spend your morning paddling the Trinity River with Backwoods Paddlesports. After your hike, head to the Fort Worth Water Park for some fun with the pooches. End your weekend at the Coyote Drive-in Movie Theater.

Broken Bow is the perfect destination for families, couples or individuals looking for a weekend getaway! With so many accommodations to choose from (from rustic to luxury), you may not want to leave.

If you are away from home, you can rent a boat on Broken Bow Lake, go horseback riding, hiking, and even take a hiking lesson! I recommend hiking the Friendly Loop (1.5 miles) and the Mountain Lookout Loop (2.9 miles).

Think secluded spots without cell service, natural swimming holes, quiet trails and hiking trails. It’s pretty cool… right? If so, head to the Ozark Forest in northwest Arkansas. Now enjoy all your books and board games for a forest vacation!

Broken Bow Cabins Pet Friendly

While there are many hikes to choose from, I recommend going to Whitakers Point (pictured) and Glory Hole Falls. Ask your airbnb host or other hosts about the hidden swimming hole! (We stayed at a rustic cabin near Pettigrew, AR and there was a swimming hole across the street!)

Fans of Joanna and Chip Gaines (Fixer Upper) will enjoy a visit to Waco, TX. They created a special place, Magnolia Market in Silos. While you can shop here (with your kids), people watch, eat from food trucks, take great photos, and check out some of the special events.

If you want to extend your trip, drive 1.5 hours northwest of Glen Rose, TX and you’ll find Dinosaur Valley State Park. A great theme park with real rollers and parts!

Hot Springs National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the United States. All in the center of town with swimming pools, city walks and pools. Although the pool isn’t dog-friendly, it’s nice to see from the outside, and you can bring your dog into the Superior Pool to cool off (in the pool water, of course).
