Dog Friendly Vacations Florida – West Palm Beach, Florida is a great vacation spot with or without pets. West Palm Beach is located on Florida’s east coast, approximately 73 miles north of Miami and 170 miles south of Orlando. It’s a short ride across the Flagler Memorial Bridge to luxurious Palm Beach along the Inland Coast.
From the Palm Beach Lake Trail along the Flagler Bridge and Intercoastal Waterway, Phoebe overlooks the beauty of dog-friendly West Palm Beach.
Dog Friendly Vacations Florida
Last month we traveled with our dogs from Long Island, New York to West Palm Beach. After a few weeks of cold temperatures and more snow than I expected, I needed to escape Old Man Winter! I was very happy to be able to take this vacation because on my way back to New York we were hit by four storms in a row starting on Norway Day. Mother Nature is clearly mad.
Pet Friendly Florida Vacation Rentals
I was happy to see that dog friendly West Palm Beach is dog friendly! I was very pleased with the hotel we chose, the Hyatt Place in downtown West Palm Beach. The location was great especially for walking and interacting with the dogs. All three locations are within walking distance of the hotel, making them perfect for pet-friendly vacations.
Coastal Path Just one block east of the hotel is a beautiful paved path along the coastal path. This long track is perfect at any time of the day or evening. The road is wide, the sea view is beautiful. There is also a lawn if your dog needs a break.
For a better view of the surroundings, take a walk along the long pier that stretches over the water.
You can also walk your dog across the Flagler Memorial Bridge. The bridge itself is beautiful, as is the view of the ocean and downtown West Palm Beach. It is especially beautiful at night.
Five Things To Know About The Best Pet Friendly Florida Beaches
Palm Beach Trail Cross the Flagler Bridge and you’ll reach charming Palm Beach. Cross the bridge on the left and you will see the parking lot and the start of the Palm Beach Trail. The trail follows most of Palm Beach Island for several miles along the coast from the bridge. Along the way, you’ll pass the famous Flagler Museum. One side of the boardwalk is lined with beautiful homes, while the other side offers stunning views of downtown West Palm Beach across the water.
We loved walking the dogs on the Palm Beach boardwalk, enjoying the ocean view, and looking out over the backyards of the luxury homes along the boardwalk.
We had such a great time at this pet friendly getaway! Fortunately, there were a few shady spots where we could stop for a swim with the dogs. We saw several large lizards basking in the sun as we passed some private docks. Icy was completely mesmerized by the lizards and wanted to get close to them. Of course we didn’t let him get close!
Check out this wild looking tree I found at the end of someone’s yard on Palm Beach Road! How would you like this tree to grow in your yard?
Your Choice For Best South Florida Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals With Private Pool
Rosemary Square (aka City Place) East of the hotel, on the waterfront, lots of natural beauty, but west of the hotel, there’s action! About a 7-minute walk west of the hotel is Rosemary Square, formerly City Place, an upscale shopping and dining destination. It is not only an outdoor shopping center, but also an entertainment venue with music and various events.
Rosemary Square is a large area spanning several blocks. We spent most of our time in the main “plaza” pictured above. Rosemary Square has some great restaurants and shops. Or you can just drink coffee and people watch!
One of our favorite breakfast spots was the Village Gourmet Cheese Shop downtown.
We loved Rosemary Square and spent many days and evenings there. NOTE: Clematis Street near Rosemary Square is the “restaurant street” of downtown West Palm Beach. However, there are many homeless people, especially during the day. They are known to come directly to open-air restaurants, ask for money and even bring a plate of food. The city is doing everything possible to solve this problem. One morning, walking down Clematis Road to a coffee shop, I met a homeless man. He insisted that he would take a small plastic bag and feed it to the dogs. I don’t know why he had to do this, but he followed me for a few minutes to get my bag. Of course, my husband probably did not notice that he was standing 50 meters away from me. lol!!

Wondering and worrying about whether they’re having a good time can put a huge damper on your vacation, so why not make your adventure dog-friendly? After all, pets deserve a short vacation too. But before you pack a car or book a plane ticket for a pet-friendly vacation; Here’s how you can help plan your next trip to Florida with your pet.
As with any member of the family, safety comes first when it comes to pet vacations. Before traveling with your pet, start by asking your vet about anything to consider, such as age or health issues. For example, according to PetSafe, pets must generally be at least 8 weeks old and have all vaccinations for air travel. However, an elderly dog with poor vision may be fine for air and car travel, but will need a safe and secure accommodation without the risk of falling down stairs or balconies. Whichever method of travel you prefer, keep your pet’s medical records handy and stop as often as possible for rest and fresh air.

Although not all places are pet friendly, there are many hotels that allow dogs and welcome them with open arms. For starters, La Quinta Inn and Suites, Residence Inn by Marriott, The Ritz Carlton Golf Resort, and Naples Bay Resort are dog-friendly hotels in the Naples area. Meanwhile, Fort Myers has plenty of accommodations for pet travelers, including Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, and La Quinta Inn. Pet-friendly hotels in Sarasota include Aloft, The Westin, Comfort Suites Sarasota-Siesta Key, and Holiday Inn Lido Beach.
Check to see if there are any pet weight restrictions, additional fees, and if there is a place on site or nearby where you can take your pet to stretch and play. Moving to VRBO or Airbnb is also an option for pet lovers who want to enjoy a backyard for their pets while on vacation.
Florida’s warm and cool climate and laid-back environment are perfect for pet travelers. With so many places to eat with your dog, it’s relatively easy to find dining options. The Bring Fido site in Sarasota alone lists about 150 pet-friendly restaurants that welcome dogs at outdoor tables, such as Old Salty Dog, O’Leary’s Tiki Bar & Grill and New Pass Grill. TJ Carney’s Pub & Grille and Original Word of Mouth in Venice, Florida are some of the restaurants that won’t bat an eye if you’re taking your dog out for dinner. When in doubt, call the restaurant of your choice ahead of time and ask if they can bring a glass of water or a special snack.
