Rich in history and the site of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home, Lincoln State Park features over 10 miles of hiking trails, rolling hills, and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to explore this state park with you. You can see the Lincoln Boyhood National Monument, a pioneer farm, the site of the Lincoln Cabin, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the Twelve Stones Historic Trail. Want to stay all day? You can camp at this state park! It’s great for a night spot.
If the covered bridge reminds you of a famous movie, you know why this area of Iowa is such a unique place to travel. Your dog is welcome to join you on many of the covered bridges in this area of Iowa. Madison County is the covered bridge capital of Iowa. This county has the largest group of covered bridges in a single county! Since there are many bridges to dirt roads, leave the RV back at the campground while you explore.
In our six-plus years of RV travel with pets, when I think of a place that surprises me the most, it’s a paw on the chalk cairns of Kansas. Few travelers know about this destination, but now the secret is out! At the western end of Gove County, Kansas is Monument Rocks. It is a series of large chalk monoliths known as the Chalk Pyramids. Dogs are allowed on a leash and you will feel like you are on another planet. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
A Guide To Dog Friendly Northern Michigan
Being originally from Florida, we love being at the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Brickle and Digby, I can now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has miles of sandy beaches and cliffs that rise above Lake Michigan. Like many areas, there are some beaches where dogs are not allowed, so check with the friendly park staff, get a map or look online. We found that there were more places for Brickell and Digby on the shores of this picturesque lake than we expected. But note that dogs are not allowed on the dunes for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as high as Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, MN! This was such a fun stop for us on our travels. Check out the giant Paul Bunyan statue and the Babe Sin wall for a spectacular photo opportunity. This roadside attraction has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Built in 1937, Paul Bunyan and his blue ox stand on the shore of Lake Bemidji near the Visitor Information Center. After you get the best photo of your dog, visit nearby dog-friendly Itasca State Park. Here you can see the headwaters of the Mississippi River, hike and have a picnic!
Named for the park’s large sand cave, Indian Cave State Park borders the Missouri River. Your dog will thank you for bringing him here to camp, picnic and hike the 22 miles of trails! Native American Cave is the main geological feature in this park and contains prehistoric Native American petroglyphs! Remember to keep your dog on a leash and clean up after him to preserve this beautiful place.
We usually tend to stay away from big cities on our RV trips since our dogs are older. But we found Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri to be a great balance between urban and quaint. Two iconic buildings in this 91-acre park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy walking in the green grass and parks, watching the horses and carts and relaxing on a picnic. Leashed dogs can explore the park and walk the boardwalk.

We love roadside attractions and unique stops, and the dog-friendly border village really ticks all the boxes! Original buildings from the frontier villages of North Dakota were brought to this site. The exhibits are filled with unique antiques and artifacts and are a great way to learn more about North Dakota and its history. If you’re looking for the world’s largest buffalo monument, you’ve found it! Near Frontier Village, visit this special photo spot. You just can’t resist!
This park is a wonderful haven for native plants and wildlife, and your dog is welcome to explore over 100 miles of trails in this national park with you. Why does Cuyahoga Valley National Park hold my heart? There’s wine in the park! Yes, a dog-friendly winery! After hiking and exploring, sit under the trees at Sarah’s Vineyard with your dog. As with any park, check the national park pet restrictions before visiting.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota state park and wildlife refuge in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Custer State Park is known for its bison herds, scenic drives, historic sites, resorts and campgrounds. It has been declared one of the top ten wildlife destinations in the world for the variety of wildlife within the park boundaries. Just 15 miles from the town of Custer, this state park is huge and awe-inspiring!
I still remember the way Digby looked at me when we were standing on the shore of the lake in the Apostle Islands. The wind was blowing, the sun was shining, all was well in our world of travel. For the crust, mix all the ingredients and leave to rise in a warm place for one hour. Roll out the dough and spread it on a greased, greased or deep pizza pan. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
