Dog Friendly Vacations Missouri

Dog Friendly Vacations Missouri – Travel to Missouri for an unforgettable cruise. Most of the most popular beaches and swimming areas are located in or near the city of Columbia, which has many state parks and natural areas with interconnected hiking trails. In fact, most of these places have dog parks, ponds, and lakes where pets can play. When choosing a vacation rental in Missouri, keep in mind that state parks have strict rules about dogs at public beaches and pools. However, pets are allowed on the hiking trails as long as they are on a leash. Check out Missouri’s top dog-friendly beaches.

Twin Lakes Recreation Area, on the southern edge of Columbia, offers great fun for dogs. The enclosure includes a large lawn, a pond and a section of beach, as well as the entire 16-acre Twin Lakes Fishing Lake, providing plenty of off-leash running and swimming for your dog. Although the beach is closed between November and March – the thin ice can be a problem for two-legged and four-legged animals – it is open and unrestricted all year round. Many of the area’s pet-friendly vacation rentals are within walking distance of the park. In fact, if you find one near the Hinkson Woods Conservation Area, you can walk your dog all the way to the dog park. While you watch your dog, the whole family can swim in neighboring Little Mates Cove, which is literally meters away, or hike Hinkson Creek. Later, enjoy a walk through the Forum Nature Area and the Branch-Hinkson Creek Wetlands.

Dog Friendly Vacation Guide

If you head north through downtown Columbia, you’ll pass the Garth Nature Area, a fenced-in dog park with a pet-only pool and beach. Although the beach or pool isn’t that big – the whole park is 3 hectares – it’s big enough for your dog to stretch its legs and have a good time. The dog park is part of the larger Garth Nature Area with paths through the trees, around the lake and across the moor. Explore the area with your dogs on leash or take the Bear Creek Trail from this park to Cosmo Park. Afterwards, treat the two of you to a delicious meal at Houlihan’s, Smokin Chicks BBQ, and 44 Stone Public House. Just be prepared to sit on the porch with the puppy.

On the southeastern side of Columbia is the Grindstone Nature Reserve, which with 200 hectares provides the largest area in the dog area. Explore the Grindstone Nature Trail that weaves through the woods and fields. Climb to the top of Lost Hill for a great view or let your child play in the creek, which is totally allowed. However, the Hinkson Creek Trail, which also runs through the natural area, is on a leash. When your dog is tired from all the excitement, head up to Capen Park’s cliff for some rest and stunning views.

Stephens Lake Park is one of the few places where dogs or people are not allowed, although a leash is required. Stroll Fido along the sandy beach, let him get his feet wet, and stroll around and above the pool (courtesy of the boardwalk that connects to the center island). After walking the dog, play a game at Columbia Country Club, then spend some time in the North Village. Here you can eat at Shakespeare’s Pizza Downtown or Flat Branch Pub & Brewing (dogs allowed) and catch a show at the Blue Note or Canvas on Broadway (dogs not allowed).

Broemmelsiek Park in Defiance, Missouri is a rural retreat that offers you and your four-legged best friend a chance to meet in solitude and once in a while. Although dogs are not allowed in the park’s pool, there is a 4.7-acre dog park with its own pool and beach. After he’s out of power, catch him in Bromelsiek Park; There are over 400 acres to explore and many trails. You can return at night to see the stars at the astronomical observatory. If you’re looking for a larger area to explore, head to Weldon Spring Conservation Area and Howell Island Conservation Area. Float the Missouri River Rent a raft and have fun with your pet (some rental agencies allow this). A nearby park, Peace Park, offers some historic sites such as the original Thomas Jefferson gravestone and the Francis Quadrangle. Even better, you can put your dog outside on the trail and clean up after him.  So get ready for a trip to Branson, Missouri with your favorite furkid and don’t forget to buckle up.
