Our dogs. The following comments are, by their nature, opinions and you should find an RV with a floor plan and features that are right for you.
First we need to know what the problem is. As for facility size, we know that “any grocery store parking lot, any gas station” has to be small. We knew we didn’t want a camper shell for several reasons, but high steps seemed like a bad idea for medium-sized dogs.
We looked at the size B+/minimum C model for a while and seriously considered LTV functionality with a Murphy bed. We excluded Class Cs because they still fall into the “we need to tow a car” size range. On the other hand, we rejected the 19-foot Revel as too small and spartan to enjoy, especially for seating. We ultimately settled on 21-foot vans: long enough to have plenty of room inside and short enough to stay just a few feet in the parking lot. In practice we usually end up overtaking two places, but that’s okay
Because sleep comfort is very important to us, we felt we didn’t want a floor plan with a reclining sofa. All those pillows have no way of creating a smooth surface. We also don’t want the thought of messing up the bed or sleeping every night. For a long time we thought about opting for the Travato 59G with the corner folding bed: it had a good floor plan for storing items under the bed, while still keeping the back door usable. That is until I found details like the 2019 model that converts into a propane refrigerator, details that I really liked (Tommy).
Small Travel Trailers & Campers Under 3,500 Lbs
Reading other people’s experiences with the 59G we finally confirmed that the corner bed was not for us. It was too heavy for our dogs to jump on themselves, and too heavy for our dogs to lift (I’ve already had to lift our 65+ pound Lily into our Jeep, “and that’s enough). If you have pets, it can be very different.For us, even though we force the dogs to sleep on the floor all the time, where they have to slide off the high bed, they tend to pile up and step on too many tails, we now have three dogs weighing in between 50 and 65 pounds: They take up a lot of space and it’s pretty much guaranteed that at least one of them will be there.
Considering all of the above, we preferred the floor plan with two beds and a central compartment, even if the rear doors opened strangely for a poop.
Most vans with double beds put a table in the middle to make it into a large bed, but I doubt we’ll ever do that. As with our arrival/departure procedures, we like to keep the nightly routine short and simple.
We leave our bed alone during the day, cover it with some kind of sunshade, and let the daytime bed serve as a dog bed on the floor at night.

Looking at the reviews, we chose the Travato 59K, model year 2019 or later, for some of the features they made standard. The new models are even more dog-friendly: starting from 2020.5 the platforms are equipped with slots for attaching the leash. We decided to let someone else take on the burden of the first year’s depreciation and purchased some gently used equipment.
To save costs, we have decided to forego the Volta Lithium system as we no longer work full time. Without lithium, the air conditioning will not turn on if the dogs are left in the parking lot. We use lithium batteries as DIY project. For normal use, we expect it to go beyond our A-Class, so we hope to charge it a lot for driving. And we have a day for basic needs and a generator if needed if we are staying for a long time.
To give you an idea of how much we love 59K, one of our biggest complaints is that the outdoor shower has no hot water, which results in muddy dogs.
