Park Vista’s unique circular architecture affords guests stunning views of the surrounding mountains from wherever their room is located. There’s an even better view from the Little Pigeon Riverfront Fire Pit. Inside you’ll find a saltwater pool with a hot tub and a water slide. A video game room will keep the kids occupied while the parents work out in the gym. There’s even a happy hour every night at the Garden Grille, the hotel’s restaurant. Although slightly outside of downtown, Park Vista is on the Gatlinburg Light Rail route and offers easy access to most local attractions. Man’s best friend is one of our favorite travel companions.  Can you bring your puppy?  Yes, the 9 Lakes region of East Tennessee is known for its dog-friendly trails, parks and restaurants.

Trip planning starts with dog-friendly accommodations.  There are many websites for finding hotels, cabins, campgrounds, house rentals, and inns with pet-friendly rooms.  Pack your dog’s favorite blanket and toys to help him feel comfortable in his home away from home.   If you plan to go swimming or hiking, pack a dog towel to use after a day of activity.

The trails are generally pet-friendly.  Only Great Smoky National Park does not allow dogs on its trails.  National parks will require your dog to be on a leash.  A good outing is one that offers uncrowded trails, water, and a place to stop for a post-hike snack.  Some of our favorite spots were Obed Wild and Scenic River Park, followed by a snack at Hopyard; Norris Dam State Park with snacks at Clinch River Brewery; or downtown Cumberland Gap and an iced coffee for you at the Gap Creek Cafe and a cool spring bath for your pet.
