I moved from Ontario to BC. 8 years ago and these 7 places impressed me the most (Photos) If you live in or have visited Vancouver, you know that the hiking here is world class and the trails are endless.

If you have a dog in Vancouver, you know that trying to get a dog hike can be a little frustrating, especially on a whim.

Darby and I have discovered many trails over the past four years and these are our favorites!

Goodman Park Dog Swim Area

*Note: Based on my experience, the prices, lengths and options listed below for each route may differ from those on the vancouvertrails.com website.

* In summer, it is a good idea to bring water for your short friend. The waterfall is close to the road, but it is dangerous and can be stopped. There are a few streams, but they often dry up during the summer.

Located about 45 minutes from Vancouver on the way to Whistler, Chai is a granite mountain popular with hikers and climbers.

Located in the growing mountain town of Skamish, this resort is very popular during the summer.

Traveling With Dogs To Door County

If you’re doing this trip during the warmer months, plan to arrive early to beat the crowds, especially on weekends.

There are three peaks you can climb, all with slightly different levels of difficulty. The maximum take time is about 45 minutes for walking.

All three summits have some type of chain link or ladder, and most dogs will need some strength to climb. Older dogs may have trouble with all the upper parts.

When you reach the top, you’ll get a great view of Howe Sound and Squamish. All in all, an easy walk and worth checking out.

A Dog Friendly Destination

* Although the streams are flowing during the rainy months, it is definitely a good idea to bring water for your dog during the hot season.

Located near the main road in Skamish, the Summit Trail starts at the Sky Gondola below the ocean (or under the main road, depending on parking) and ends near the lodge at the top.

Formerly known as the Upper Shannon Avenue Trail, this hike equals the headline in terms of difficulty.

It has steep parts and some rocky areas. Most dogs should be able to walk, but be aware, it can be a little difficult for older children.

Canine Meadows Pet Resort

At the top there are great views of Howe Sound and Squamish, as well as a hotel, many platforms and a suspension bridge.

If you’re in a good mood, you can stop for a quick bite or beer before the good start.

The best part of this tour is that you can ride the cable car ($15/person and $15/dog).

The Summit Trail is a great hike and a great way to spend an afternoon.

Plan A Dog Friendly Trip To The Sunshine Coast

* Apart from the small man-made lake at the beginning, there is not much fresh water on this trip. It is better to bring something extra to your door.

About an hour from Vancouver by highway and another 1.5 hours outside of the city on low logging roads, Cham Mountain is one of my all-time favorite hikes.

Sitting in the farming town of Chilliwack, Pine Mountain is the highest peak in the Fraser Valley, and the view is hard to beat. In fact, you can see all the way to the sea on a clear day.

Cham Mountain is covered with wild flowers and open pastures, mainly because of the difficulty of the route.

Dog Friendly Trails In Squamish

A 4×4 vehicle is essential as the steep roads leading to the lodges are not well maintained and are very narrow in some places.

Although the route is easy, there are many countries, so it is important to be well prepared. Bring plenty of water, bear and spray, and let someone know where you are going.

It’s even better when you turn it on – the very sharp rocks come with a good look, so be careful.

Traveling With Pets

*Since the trip is so short and there is water above, I usually don’t see the need to bring extra water for my dog. There is also a stream below where children can drink before returning to the car.

Located in the beautiful Chilliwack Valley, about a twenty minute drive from Pine Mountain, Lindeman Lake is a green, glacial lake surrounded by rock walls and forests.

When you get to the lake, hang out on one of the many rocks along the shore. If you are brave, dive into the cold water!

Continue to Greendrop Lake to make the trip more challenging. Go over the rocks on the left side of the lake.

*There is not a ton of running water on this trip, so it is best to bring extra water for your dog.

Elk Mountain is another great hike in Chilliwack. The view is as good as (Pine Mountain) and the trailhead is more accessible.

Some parts are steep and it’s definitely a good workout, but there are several features that make it worth the climb.

If you reach the summit on a clear day, you’ll have unobstructed views of the Fraser Valley. If you’re lucky, you might even see a few fireflies peeking out from above.

Pet Friendly Accommodation

* Streams from this creek are very small, but can dry up depending on the time of year. I recommend bringing water for your dog in the summer. It should be nice when it rains.

This walk is close to town and the trail is easy to find. This is a good and easy workout to do in the afternoon.

The first part of the trail requires sweat, so I would recommend wearing waterproof hiking boots. It’s a little rocky and bumpy, but eventually the road clears.

The tall trees and beautiful forest make you feel away from the city. When you reach the top, you will see a beautiful view of the Fraser Valley.

Vancouver Island Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals

Note: This trail technically requires your dog to be on a leash, but I’ve seen very few people on the trail during the quieter seasons. Your dog can rest easy this time of year as long as he is respected.

For an easy option, check out the Lynn Valley Loop. This is the yoda that runs along the river. It’s a great place to take a dip in the warmer months, and there’s even a waterfall and pool for you and your dog to swim in at the end! Darby as you can see above
