With plenty of dog-friendly hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options, these ideas for traveling with dogs are sure to get your dog’s two paws up. Dog Friendly Hotels In New England That Will Pamper Your Pup
Burlington, Vermont is one of the most dog-friendly places in New England. Burlington offers incredible outdoor adventures and a modern, laid-back city. It’s as much a playground for dogs as it is for their companions. There are many fun activities you can do with your dog. Drive along the Burlington Greenway along the shores of Lake Champlain, then stop to sample local beer at one of the city’s dog-friendly breweries. Burlington watering holes that allow dogs on the patio include Foam Brewers and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, while establishments like Switchback Brewing Company also allow dogs on the premises. One of New England’s most popular pedestrian (and dog-friendly) shopping centers, Church Street Market has a variety of dog-friendly restaurants and stores. Made Inn Vermont is a quaint, pet-friendly bed and breakfast located within walking distance of downtown. It will make you and your dog feel like a home away from home.
When the dog days of summer arrive, there’s no better place to take your dog than Cape Cod! With miles of pristine coastline, irresistible laid-back charm, and countless outdoor activities, Cape Cod is the perfect summer getaway for both people and dogs. You’ll especially enjoy visiting Cape Cod National Seashore. It’s sun-drenched sandy beach and walking paths allow dogs to be kept off leash, even in high season. Then quench your thirst at Provincetown Brewing Company. They’re so dog-friendly (and socially conscious) that the beer garden has a doghouse with a sign that says “I bite racists.” There are also several pet-friendly hotels on the Cape. Pamper your pooch at the luxurious Chatham Bars Inn Resort or try “walking” your dog while camping at Nickerson State Park.

If you want to relax by the ocean with your dog, head to Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Located just five miles south of Portland, it’s a great place to get away from it all without going too far. South of Fort Williams State Park, home of the iconic Portland Lighthouse, is a large grassy area where dogs can run and play. Of course, you can’t visit Maine without trying the local lobster roll, and Bite In Maine has pet-friendly outdoor food trucks and picnic tables in the park. Higgins Beach is a popular spot for dogs to roll in the sand and splash in the water. After a long day in the sun, relax at Inn by the Sea, a luxury beach resort that offers incredible care for pets and their owners.

You and your dog will love exploring Nantucket together. This tiny island off the coast of Cape Cod has virtually no traffic lights and New England charm. Right after the ferry ride, where you’ll see many other pet owners making the trip, it’s clear that Nantucket is a place where canine visitors are welcome. Choose from a wide range of dog-friendly activities, from hiking the Sconset Bluff Trail to exploring historic lighthouses. The city has plenty of dog-friendly patios, including breakfast spot Black Eyed Susan and eclectic American bistro Queequeg. Relax and enjoy a sit-down breakfast at the Bed & Breakfast Lantern Inn, which welcomes four-legged friends to select a room for a small fee.
This extremely dog-friendly town in northeastern Vermont is a must-see. Known as the Ski Capital of the East, Stowe attracts visitors from around the world each winter to its world-class resort. But with plenty of outdoor activities year-round, Stowe is a great place to take your dog.
For the great adventurer, Smugglers Notch State Park offers miles of trails through the beautiful Green Mountains. If you’re looking for something quieter (but still fun), you and your dog will enjoy a walk along the Stowe Recreation Trail. This 17-mile paved trail is lined with dog-friendly restaurants and breweries. The area also has several dog-friendly hotels to suit all budgets. Luxury resorts such as Trapp Family Lodge, Topnotch Resort and Lodge at Spruce Peak offer all the amenities. But if you’re looking for something a little more affordable, consider dog-friendly accommodation at Field Guide Lodge or The Stowe Half.

Our favorite part of traveling is the food, and this region has it all: Boston baked beans, wild blueberries, stews, soups, breads, and apples! Our dogs Brickle and Digby were definitely their favorites! We would have shared some blueberry pie in Maine!

Walk your dog, admire beautiful old boats, and learn about the maritime lifestyle that was common in this part of New England. Pets must be on a leash and are welcome in all outdoor areas. Pets are also allowed on boardwalk cruises, which are posted as long as the tour size allows dogs on the boat! Choose from local RV resorts that offer water views and are dog friendly!
Delaware is the second largest state in the country, but it also offers five great state parks for camping! We loved Killens Pond State Park near Felton, Delaware. Killens Pond is a great place for kayaking, canoeing, boating, paddle boating, or walking the pond with your dog! Camping Killins Pond State Park has 59 dog-friendly, single-family campsites with electric and water hookups.
