When I first moved back to the Bay Area, it was so hard to find a friendly sign! My single friend told me to go to Point Reyes (you can’t) or Muir Woods (you can’t) … or any number of others. We did a lot of exploring, hiked several trails, and finally hiked with our dog. It’s a habit!

Seal Point Park has it all. You can run for miles with your pup, play at the dog park, or go to Coyote Point Recreation Area, which is very wooded and like a hike.

My favorite trip is because of the options you have! I often come here with my two little kids and they love it here. Here are some reasons why this is the Bay Area’s favorite dog walk:
If I want a real walk with Pulkas Ridge, trees and dirt.. But I only have one hour. It’s usually a pre-sunset walk on a summer weekday or a Saturday morning walk before lunch. The parking lot is small, which means that it is usually not too crowded on the road, and the children love all the different smells here. Sometimes there are tons of ticks in this environment when there are trees and shrubs. But there is no problem here, I have been walking all year.

There are several hikes in Pacifica that could make this list, but if I had to choose, I’d go with Sweeney Ridge. It’s easy, hassle-free, and it’s almost immediately obvious to continue once you reach the top of the mountain.

We explored the Mount Thomas area specifically the Kent Trail to Stocking Trail. Unfortunately, when we got home the boy was completely covered in lice, which gave him a slight headache. The hike was beautiful, but it didn’t bother us, that’s why I left this list.

It is located on Fairfax-Bolinas Road near Stinson Beach, nestled in the Damalpais Mountains. It is a protected mountain, famous for rivers, reservoirs and redwoods.
Cataract Falls is the most popular waterfall in Marin and the Bay Area. It has a narrow forest trail that hugs a small waterfall that flows down into the Kata Cave.
It’s quite a challenging route, including walking up uneven stone steps and narrow walkways, while maintaining altitude. If you go after a heavy rain (that’s when you sweat the most), it can also mean dirty feet (and possibly dirty everything) for your child.
The Cataract Falls hike can be done as an out and back or a loop. The first is about 3 miles (1.5 miles each way) on Cataract Road. It covers an elevation of about 1,055 feet.

The length of the walk depends on your fitness level and how fast you and your dog want to walk. The 3-kilometer hike takes about 2 to 3 hours, while the 7.5-kilometer trail takes about 3.5 to 5 hours. If you are strong, you can do it faster. If your dog walks slowly, it may take longer.
You can do this walk at any time of the year, but it is best to do it after heavy rains because sweat is the main attraction. In the case of Marin County, it usually means winter. If you plan your hike with a break in windy weather, you can see the waterfall at its best.
